Oil and Gas Activity Boosts Texas Manufacturing Job Growth

The Austin Business Journal  recently reported that manufacturing employment in Texas increased 2.5 percent from May 2013 to May 2014, according to Manufacturers’ News Inc., marking this the third consecutive year of growth for Texas. Highlights reported:

• Texas added more than 31,000 industrial jobs from May 2013 to May 2014
• The state is now home to 22,567 manufacturers that employ more than 1.2 million workers
• The oil and gas extraction industry is a particular leader of job growth, fueled by concentrated activity in the Eagle Ford Shale and Permian Basin energy basins
• Among Texas cities, Houston had the largest gain in manufacturing employment
