An attorney and CPA, Dawn Rhea advises on tax consultancy and tax controversy engagements and works with the tax quality risk teams across the firm. She focuses on and helps lead Weaver’s Inflation Reduction Act federal non-transportation fuel credit initiatives advising on production, investment, carbon sequestration, clean hydrogen, advanced energy projects, credit monetization, base rate enhancements and structuring. Dawn represents taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service during all stages of examination and appeals process, as well as Private Letter Rulings and other taxpayer relief. Throughout her career, she has advised companies and equity holders on legal, financial and federal income tax consequences of mergers, taxable asset/stock and tax-free stock acquisitions, sales, QSBS and divisive transactions.
Dawn earned a J.D. from Loyola University achieving magna cum laude and on Law Review. She holds an LLM from New York University School of Law (taxation) and a master’s and bachelor’s from A. B. Freeman School of Business, Tulane University. Dawn is a member of the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council (IRSAC) vice-chair of the Large Business & Internal subgroup, the California Bar, the New York Bar and the Texas Bar. She is a Certified Public Accountant in Louisiana and Texas.
