Leanne Sobel, J.D., has over 15 years of experience in legal tax matters. Her career focus includes federal and state tax and trade matters associated with trading crude oil and refined petroleum products. Her experience includes advising clients on matters relating to importing crude oil, petroleum products and biofuels into the United States, as well as trade preference programs, Foreign Trade Zone issues and issues resulting from the Jones Act rules regarding coastwise trade. As Director, Leanne advises clients on U.S. trade and foreign policy, such as issues related to obtaining export licenses from the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security, compliance with the foreign assets control programs applicable to U.S. persons, extraterritorial sanctions laws and antiboycott laws. Leanne’s area of focus includes advisory and consulting on federal and state excise taxes, including federal and state registrations, federal and state motor fuel excise taxes and environmental fees, federal biofuel tax credits as well as taxes and fees due on importation, including oil spill fees.
Leanne is a member of the American Bar Association, New York State Bar, District of Columbia Bar and Federation of Tax Administrators, Motor Fuels section. She graduated with honors from the University of Oxford with her Masters and Bachelors in jurisprudence.
