Mary B. McCarter, FASA, has been engaged in business appraisals since 1981, with an emphasis on estate and gift tax valuations, employee benefit plans (ESOPs), and litigation support services, and has testified in various litigation matters. Mary has performed appraisals across many industry sectors but has extensive experience in the agricultural and forest product industries. Before founding Columbia Financial Advisors, Inc. in 1992, Mary was a principal at a valuation consulting and forensic analysis firm, where she focused on business appraisal and financial advisory services for estate and gift tax, ESOPs, and litigation support purposes.
Mary is an Accredited Senior Appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), designated in Business Valuation, and is a past CFA Institute charterholder. She earned her Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Portland and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Kenyon College. A frequent speaker, lecturer, instructor, and author on matters involving valuation, she is a past CFA Institute member, past Chair of the Appraisal Foundation, and a member of the College of Fellows, ASA. Mary was a course developer and instructor in business valuation for ASA and has also taught for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Mary is qualified as an expert witness in business valuation issues.
