Sonia Desai
Sonia Desai, CPA, ABV, ASA, CBV, is a partner in the Forensics and Litigation Services practice at Weaver, with nearly two decades of experience in forensic accounting, business valuation and economic damages, including serving as an expert witness. With her background in valuation and forensic accounting, she is uniquely qualified to help quantify the financial impact of any business or family dispute. Her work as an expert witness often involves the valuation of closely held businesses in shareholder and partner disputes, commercial litigation and divorce. Her work in family law includes tracing and characterization of assets, as well as quantification of constructive fraud, reimbursement, and other financial claims. Sonia is skilled at communicating financial and accounting details with clarity to a variety of audiences, including attorneys, clients, juries, judges and arbitrators. Sonia also prepares valuation reports for IRS purposes including estate and gift tax reporting, as well as for purchase and sale of business interests. Her experience spans technology, professional services, consumer packaged goods, construction, health care, manufacturing and distribution, financial services, and other industries.
Sonia is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in Texas and Illinois, a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in Canada, an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA), Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) by the AICPA, and a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV). She has served as a panelist and presenter to several legal associations, including the American Bar Association, Austin Bar Association and Travis County Women Lawyers’ Association. She has also authored several articles for publication in journals, including CPA Insider, Austin Business Journal and Austin Lawyer, and has been quoted in various news publications, including the New York Times and The Business Journals. Sonia received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto in 2004.
