Organizations Offer School Districts Resources for Boosting K-12 Cybersecurity
As the new school year begins, government entities, corporations and other organizations have announced efforts to support school districts nationally in their efforts to strengthen cybersecurity. In addition to federal agencies, organizations in the cybersecurity and education technology industries have announced grant programs, technology solutions and educational materials for school districts and their IT personnel.
Federal agencies:
- Department of Education and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) released a report: K-12 Digital Infrastructure Brief: Defensible & Resilient
- CISA will offer tailored assessments, facilitating exercises, and cybersecurity training for 300 new K-12 entities
- FBI and National Guard Bureau have updated resource guides on cybersecurity
Non-government entities:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): Offering a $20 million K-12 cyber grant program, free security training through AWS Skill Builder, and no-cost cyber incident response assistance through its Customer Incident Response Team
- Cloudflare: Project Cybersafe Schools will offer a suite of free Zero Trust cybersecurity solutions to public school districts with under 2,500 students
- PowerSchool will offer free and subsidized “security as a service” courses, training, tools and resources to U.S. schools and districts
- Google has updated its “K-12 Cybersecurity Guidebook”
- D2L is offering access to new cybersecurity courses
